Rodriguez was born in Sacramento, California, the son of Juan Carlos Rodriguez , born in Anaheim , and Daniela Ramos, born in Monterrey, Mexico. Esteban Rodriguez was born with a high dose of autism and was not able to speak his first words until he was 4½ years old. During this time, he would consistently watch Baby Einstein on television, which sparked a high appreciation for classical music that he would still have tho this day as well as a fascination for visual media. His love for cinema, especially for art house and foreign language movies, would reach it's height during his teenage years, making him want to fully embrace his dreams of being an auteur filmmaker himself.
