Il suo album del 1998 "Gershwin's World" ha celebrato il centenario del compositore riproponendo la sua musica nel contesto originario del jazz e del ragtime insieme ad una serie di cantanti famosi.Nel portare quest'album in concerto, i brani vocali sono gradatamente diventati strumentali ed è stato incorporato altro materiale così, in aggiunta ai pezzi di Gershwin "Fascinatin' Rhythm" e "The Man I Love", potrete ascoltare "Blueberry Rhyme" di James P. Johnson, "St. Louis Blues" di WC Handy's, "Cotton Tail" di Ellington e "Here Come Da Honey Man", "Cantaloupe Island", "One Finger Snap" e "Maiden Voyage" di Hancock.Il sestetto è ben bilanciato ed in aggiunta ad Hancock al piano ed occasionalmente al sintetizzatore, ci sono Cyril Battista alle percussioni, Terrylyn Carrington alla batteria, Ira Coleman al basso, Eddie Henderson alla tromba ed al filicorno, e Eli Dugiberry al sassofono.
